One may be tempted to rent a pressure washer and blast the dirt and grime from their roof. This is one of the quickest ways to destroy your roof and take years off of the life of your shingles.

We  recommend a fixed schedule on when to power wash a house. These guides would often recommend once a year or once every two years as a rough estimate on how often you should power wash your house.

During the hotter, dryer times it takes 2 to 4 hours to dry. The colder months can take up to a full day.

Soft washing is the only way to effectively remove this algae without damaging the shingles and voiding any warranty. The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association recommends low-pressure bleach or detergent assisted washing as the preferred method for cleaning asphalt roofs in order to prevent damage to the shingles.

Soft washing is a cleaning method using low pressure and specialized solutions to safely remove mildew, bacteria, algae and other organic stains from roofs and other building exteriors. It is so named to differentiate the method from power washing.
